Assistant Store Manager – Resale Store
Location: Hope Chest Resale Store, Wayzata, MN
Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $28.00- $30/hour
Benefits: PTO, resale store discount
Reports To: Director of Operations and Resale Store Manager
The Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Foundation provides emergency financial assistance and supports programs for local breast cancer patients and families. Revenue generated through the Hope Chest Resale Store directly funds the Foundation’s Patient Grants Program and mission-based services.
The resale store serves as both a retail operation and community engagement hub, transforming donated goods into meaningful financial support for patients undergoing breast cancer treatment.
Position Summary
The Assistant Store Manager plays a key role in supporting daily store operations, assisting with retail management, volunteer engagement, donation processing, merchandising, staff supervision, and delivering exceptional customer and donor experience. This role works collaboratively with the Store Manager to maximize store revenue, maintain exceptional customer experiences, and support operational excellence while advancing the Foundation’s mission. The Assistant Store Manager serves as a hands-on leader and ambassador for Hope Chest within the community.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations & Leadership
- Support daily resale store operations to ensure efficient workflow and achievement of revenue goals
- Assist with opening/closing procedures, cash handling, deposits, POS transactions, and daily reconciliations
- Serve as Manager-on-Duty in the absence of the Store Manager
- Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
- Implement and uphold retail policies and procedures
Mission Integration & Community Engagement
- Promote the mission of Hope Chest through customer, donor, and volunteer interactions
- Communicate how resale purchases and donations support local breast cancer patients through the Patient Grants Program
- Represent Hope Chest with professionalism and compassion
- Support special initiatives and community outreach opportunities tied to store operations
Staff & Volunteer Leadership
- Assist in supervising employees and volunteers
- Help recruit, onboard, train, and retain volunteers
- Provide coaching and day-to-day guidance
- Assist with scheduling and shift coverage
- Foster a welcoming, positive, mission-driven team culture
Donation Intake & Inventory Management
- Assist in oversight of donation intake procedures
- Coordinate sorting, quality review, pricing, and preparation of donated merchandise
- Maintain efficient inventory flow from receiving to sales floor
- Ensure backroom organization and donation storage standards
- Support seasonal inventory rotation and special merchandise initiatives
Merchandising & Sales
- Maintain attractive visual merchandising and boutique-style displays
- Assist with pricing strategies and product placement to maximize sales
- Monitor inventory levels and floor replenishment
- Support achievement of store sales goals and performance metrics
- Participate in seasonal merchandising campaigns and promotional events
Customer & Donor Experience
- Deliver outstanding service to customers and donors
- Build relationships with shoppers, donors, volunteers, and community partners
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly
- Create a welcoming, mission-aligned store environment
Events & Special Projects
- Support store participation in Foundation initiatives, fundraising activities, and events
- Assist with resale promotions connected to Foundation programming including events, campaigns, and seasonal initiatives
- Participate in inventory preparation for specialty sales or fundraising efforts as needed
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree or coursework in retail, business, nonprofit management, or related field preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years of retail experience required
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
- Experience in resale, thrift, boutique retail, nonprofit retail, consignment, or volunteer-driven environments strongly preferred

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the store for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move donations and merchandise up to 40 pounds
- Frequent bending, reaching, sorting, and carrying items
- Ability to assist with merchandise movement and store setup activities
Work Schedule
On-site. Flexible schedule including occasional evenings, weekends, and support for Foundation events or store initiatives as needed.
