Director of Operations

The Director of Operations is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring that the organization’s operational, financial, and administrative infrastructure fully supports its mission and strategic goals. This position oversees daily office and store operations, human resources, financial stewardship, systems development, and compliance management. 

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Operations serves as a collaborative partner and plays an essential role in executing board approved initiatives, supporting long-term planning, and strengthening overall organizational effectiveness. 

This is a hands-on role requiring regular onsite engagement (80% of the work week) to support staff, improve operational processes, and ensure seamless day-to-day execution. 

Key Responsibilities 

Operational Leadership 

  • Ensure efficient and effective operation of the foundation’s office and retail store(s). 
  • Oversee day-to-day workflow, facilities, scheduling, and operational priorities. 
  • Provide resources, structure, and guidance for staff to deliver mission-critical activities. 

Human Capital Management 

  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluation for store personnel. 
  • Foster a positive, supportive, mission-aligned workplace culture. 
  • Ensure adherence to HR policies, legal requirements, and best practices. 

Financial Stewardship 

  • Manage operational budgets, cash flow, and financial reporting. 
  • Monitor expenses, analyze trends, and ensure alignment with fiscal strategies. 
  • Support the Executive Director and board in budgeting and financial oversight. 

Systems & Infrastructure 

  • Create and refine operational systems to improve efficiency and scalability. 
  • Implement processes that enhance accountability, consistency, and service delivery. 
  • Maintain operational documentation and standard operating procedures. 

Strategic Planning & Organizational Support 

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on annual planning and infrastructure decisions. 
  • Support execution of board-approved initiatives and long-term strategic goals. 
  • Provide insight and recommendations to strengthen organizational capacity. 

Fundraising & Outreach Support 

  • Participate in fundraising events, donor engagement activities, and store-driven promotions. 
  • Strengthen the foundation’s community presence and visibility. 

Compliance & Risk Management 

  • Ensure adherence to legal, financial, safety, and operational standards. 
  • Oversee internal controls and risk mitigation measures. 
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for compliance requirements. 

Technology & Innovation 

  • Identify and implement technologies that improve workflow, data management, and reporting. 
  • Support staff training and adoption of new tools. 

Vendor & Supply Chain Management 

  • Oversee procurement, vendor relationships, and inventory management. 
  • Ensure cost-effective purchasing and consistent supply chain support. 

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Develop strong working relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and community members. 
  • Support cross-functional coordination and collaboration. 

Reporting & Accountability 

  • Reports directly to the Executive Director 
  • Provides operational insights and reports to the board when requested 
  • Plays a key role in advancing board-approved initiatives

Compensation & Benefits 

Salary Range: $75,000–$85,000, based on experience
Benefits: 

  • $500 monthly medical stipend 
  • Additional benefits may be added as the organization grows
